About Us
The Greenwald Company, LLC, was formed in 1990 to manage the property interests of the Greenwald family. However, our origins actually began in 1948 with Herbert Greenwald’s world famous partnership with architect Mies van Der Rohe as his first American patron. Together, the two developed a number of progressive and important buildings across America that continue to redefine modern architecture.

Herbert’s son, Bennet continued the family tradition as a developer and real estate investor, founding The Greenwald Company and specializing in the conversion and renewal of environmentally impacted properties, as well as sitting on the boards of The Monarch School, the first high school exclusively for homeless teenagers, and Second Chance, which provides workforce training and job placement programs to youth and adults.
Herbert Greenwald, Bennet’s son, joined the Company in 2012 and directs the company’s acquisition, asset development and management in the Chicago area. He also has extensive ownership and management experience in the restaurant and bar business. Mr. Greenwald received a Master’s in Real Estate from Roosevelt University.
Today, The Greenwald Company is responsible for a portfolio of 23 properties in all areas of real estate – residential, retail, mixed-used, office and industrial. With offices in San Diego and Chicago, The Greenwald Company’s investment strategy seeks to add value through repositioning, adaptive re-use or redevelopment across the real estate spectrum.
